Modern Life is Rubbish, 1998

This was on the North Shore Promenade, just opposite Wilton road. Built in the 1930s with lovely Romanesque columns and a nod to Art Deco modernity I believe they served as a rest area for an outdoor swimming pool opposite. By the time I got to them they had been defaced with a lot of graffiti, some of it quite unpleasant. But having being built well it would have only taken some cosmetic work to give them back to their former  majestic presence.

Modern life can be rubbish especially when gems like this are left to the philistines.

In the last picture below you can still see the tough tiles that the builders used, almost impervious to vandalism.
