This 
 is on  the Promenade in September or October 1997 during the 
Illuminations. You can see that the whole of the Golden Mile is alive 
with colour, attracting thousands of visitors . 
This 
 chap would attach himself to a group of people and then preach  Bible 
verses to them for  about a hundred yards before wishing them a good 
evening and moving on to the next group.  
I don't
 think he marked up many conversions  as people tended  to  regard him 
as just another novelty in a town already full of novelties.
If you look  at the second photo below you  can see the Tower in  the background with  the  word  Fanta illuminated. 
It
 was a big deal for the advertising industry at the time to get such a 
prestigious location for their product, and it made national headlines. 
Apparently
 Fanta UK had to get permission from their parent company Coca-Cola to 
install the 10,000 light bulbs it took to illuminate the sign. 
Now I suspect it would just be an advert on the Web.
